Book Review: Dragonsong

Dragonsong (Harper Hall of Pern #1)Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

My first visit to Pern was back in the 1980s. My book club recently chose Dragonsong as our monthly read, and I was delighted to have a reason to go back and re-visit that world.

The setting is still as cozy and charming as ever. The storyline holds up well. However, the attitudes of her family towards what a girl is allowed to do, well that grated on me more now that I’m older. In the 1980s, a girl could be told to stay in her place and I’d accept it. Now? Not so much. However. This book is a product of it’s times though, and can be read and enjoyed if one remembers that.

Lori Alden Holuta lives between the cornfields of Mid-Michigan, where she grows vegetables and herbs when she’s not writing, editing, or playing games with a cat named Chives.
