Book Review: Inspector Hobbes and the Bones
Inspector Hobbes and the Bones by Wilkie Martin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Another hilarious installment in the Unhuman series. Once again, the hapless Andy Caplet proves himself to be just barely a step above incompetent – I give him the ‘step above’ as he’s now managed to marry a rather wonderful woman. The fact that she spends 98% of this book in Egypt is just nitpicking, right? Of course, every possible aspect of Andy’s life goes horribly wrong, which to longtime readers should come as no surprise.
Our dear fictitious village of Sorenchester in the British Cotswolds is inundated by a storm-induced flood, which serves as the launch point for a few mysteries that need to be solved. Mrs Goodfellow continues to provide much of the Cozy Factor, and even a good dose of the Horror Factor this time around. Dregs the dog finds love, or at least an amazing hump, in Mimi.
All in all, it’s everything I’ve come to expect from the Unhuman series. It’s just so darned COZY. And horrific. But mostly cozy. I’ll read a different series next, then return for book #4, the final book in this series. I don’t want it to end, so I’ll delay that just a little.
