Book Review: Black Culture Word Search

Black Culture Word Search: Large Print Word Search Puzzles Featuring Black History, Icons, and CultureBlack Culture Word Search: Large Print Word Search Puzzles Featuring Black History, Icons, and Culture by Taylor Gridwell
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This collection of 100 word search puzzles goes above and beyond. It’s not merely a collection of puzzles to pass the time. Each puzzle has a theme, grounded in black history. Above each puzzle is an interesting fact about the theme. For example, puzzle #3’s theme is the Black Panther Party. The fact? The Panthers started free breakfast programs for thousands of children. You’re not just whiling away the time here, you’re learning about history in a dynamic way.

If that’s not enough, it’s a gorgeous book. The cover is drenched in rich colors, beautiful enough to lay out on your coffee table – which I encourage you to do. Keep a few sharp pencils next to it. Encourage your children, your family, your friends to try a puzzle. Grab the opportunity to start a dialog about the puzzle themes as they are completed. What a fun springboard into a deep history dive!

Lori Alden Holuta lives between the cornfields of Mid-Michigan, where she grows vegetables and herbs when she’s not writing, editing, or playing games with a cat named Chives.
